In an unexpected move by the Bellarmine Dean of Students, Bellarmine's Fall Musical "White Christmas" was unexpectedly cancelled on opening night. The performance, a heart warming holiday tale of loyalty and love, was scheduled to be performed by the Bellarmine Drama Program in conjunction with Bellarmine's own orchestra seven times over the course of two weekends. Upon seeing the costumes used in the production however, the Dean told The Hyena, "I had no option but to shut the entire operation down, as it was in clear violation of the Bellarmine dress code." The actors prepared to take the stage Friday night in inappropriate attire ranging from the translucent outfits of backup dancers, to the belt-less costumes worn by the more subtle of the rebels. Expecting to get away with their blatant dress code infractions, they were startled by the announcement of a dress code drill. An anonymous actor tells The Hyena, "We were all totally expecting to get away with representing the Bellarmine community without respecting the guidance of the dress code. Usually our director lets us this kind of stuff go, so we don't bother to adhere to a dress code that is conducive to a proper learning environment." The Bellarmine Drama director was indeed prepared to stand idly by as Bellarmine's reputation was defamed, our own Dean of Students tells us, "He has always tried to undermine the authority here at Bellarmine with his extravagant performances. I have looked the other way in the past, but this time he has simply gone too far." The director himself received a demerit when the Dress Code Drill found him halfway through changing into a tuxedo to give his opening speech. "I didn't even know I could get a demerit!" the cowed insurgent complained. He was not alone, as dozens of the show's actors were found with exposed shoulders and collarbones, while many others were reprimanded for wearing hats and their distracting hairstyles. "A good night's work," the Dean told himself, directing offending students out of the Theatre after reminding them that the dress code shall apply to all students while on campus.
